A Boone woman was killed on Highway 30 east of Grand Junction Tuesday morning when the car she was driving struck an oncoming semi tractor-trailer.
The Iowa State Patrol reports that at 11:17 am Shannon Poole, 26, of Boone was westbound driving a 1984 Buick Delta 88 when for unknown reasons she crossed the centerline. She struck the rear wheels-of a 2014 Kenworth semi rig driven by Kenneth Ricke, 55, of Arcadia. The rig is owned by Greene County Redi-Mix of Jefferson. The accident occurred two miles east of Grand Junction, west of Beaver.
Poole was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Shane Swett, 23, of Ames was injured and was transported with major injuries by Greene County EMS to Greene County Medical Center. The accident report notes he was wearing a seat belt. His condition was not released.
Ricke was not injured in the crash.
Highway 30 was closed to regular traffic for four hours as a result of the crash.
The Greene County sheriff’s office, the Boone County sheriff’s office, the Grand Junction fire and rescue squad and the Iowa DOT responded along with the State Patrol and Greene County EMS. The State Patrol is completing the investigation.
